Choosing a new bed is a very important decision, so it is worth spending some time considering all your options before making that purchase. Bed Size

If you are buying your first bed, or a bed for a new house it is important to measure the space. Consider how much room you will need to leave for furniture like bedside tables and any other furniture, you will need to be able to move around the room easily. Once you have these measurements you will be able to narrow your search down to the correct size of bed.

Type of Bed

Having decided what size of bed you require the next point you need to consider is which of the 3 main types of bed suits your needs best.

• Divan beds are the most popular style of bed on the market – they consist of a base, a mattress, and usually a headboard. Whilst these are the cheapest type of beds available they are not very stylish.

Choosing the right mattress is critical, the wrong one could cause you many uncomfortable nights of sleep and may lead to back pain. There are many different types of mattresses that you can choose from so where possible you should buy a bed you can actually try in a shop; you will be spending a lot of time on it so make the right decision.

Both of you should lie on the bed and see how it feels, take your time; what could initially feel really comfy might not after a few minutes. Move around a bit, this will also give you an indication of whether you feel the mattress move when you or your partner turns over on it.

Storage

Do you need a bed that offers you storage? Divans often come with drawers built into the base, which can be very handy if you are short of space. Bedsteads have space underneath which could be utilized for storing all that lovely fresh bedding, however, unless you purchase storage boxes or drawers this space can easily look very messy.

Storage beds, as previously mentioned, have lots of storage space they are compact so great for rooms with less space but they are very heavy.
